July of 2013 I had the pleasure of visiting Watkins Glen State Park in Watkins Glen, New York. This whole trip began with seeing a restaurant on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and road tripping it to Syracuse, New York. We figured while we were there, might as well do some sightseeing!
Side note: Those rueben fritters at Kitty Hoynes were totally worth the 6 hour drive…
The drive from Syracuse to Watkins Glen was absolutely stunning. The finger lakes regions is one of the most beautiful areas I have ever been too. It is very hilly and the air is so crisp.
Once you get the the park, there is an $8 dollar fee per vehicle, and there are also camping options. I thought the entrance was so neat, you literally walk through a hole in the side of the gorge! I would highly recommend visiting on a weekday when it is less crowded because the path around the gorge is a bit narrow in some areas.
A bonus for us was seeing the gray petaltail dragonfly that are apparently hard to spot!
