Not a better way to spend this dreary, chilly spring afternoon than reminiscing of my favorite Caribbean island: Barbados. I have been to quite a few islands in the Caribbean, and no other has captivated me as much as Barbados has.
In January of 2015 I embarked on a 7 night cruise through Royal Caribbean International on the wonderful Jewel of the Seas. Leaving out of Puerto Rico, we stopped at St. Croix, St. Maarten, Antigua, Martinique, and finally Barbados. The port of call was in Bridgetown, and it is such a welcoming city! Plenty of stores to browse through and a pleasant walk while admiring the old architecture.
Our cab driver, Henderson, was absolutely wonderful! He took us off the beaten path and told us many stories about life in Barbados. Our first stop at Bathsheba was truly breathtaking. Then natural landscape is something one could only dream of. I wouldn’t suggest swimming here though, due to the high current and many jagged rocks.
Our day ended with a stop at Harbor Lights. Good food, delicious rum punch, and the entire place is on the beach. Sandy floor and all! There is access right to the ocean, and for a small feel you can rent chairs, umbrellas, and take a catamaran ride out to snorkel. At night, they have live music and fun activities, which I hope to travel back and experience one of these days!
